We meet once per week with our teammates and play DOOP: every player has his own 52 cards and a sheet with hands on. We pick out the cards for hand xy and play it then. After the session we have scores for comparison. This is better than shuffling and playing because one of us is very interested in writing down "points" to have a winner at the end of the session (for me it is just a training session... points - schmoints)

You can imagine what happend... the arguments (not mine LOLL):
- "what a weak field",
- cards are in favour for only one side (NS or EW) over the session
- someone decided to collect interesting hands for a session of 24 boards
(*hehe* I am the only woman there, so forget about female arguments)

I have some questions:
A. Do you know where the hands are from (as far as I know they are from played tournaments somewhere in US. Which quality? The results are more plausible than those of my local club )? Did really someone pick out only interesting hands? Not that I find that bad!

B. Do you perhaps know another possibility to have a f2f competition with only 4 involved players? PC is out in this case.... But I could prepare something (of course without going too deep into the hands )

1.) u can play monoimp, playing against the expectancy of makeable contracts according to the HCP ur side holds.

downside: any standard game with 22 shapish hcp is rewarded with a gameswing in imps.
the scale can be downloaded on our homepage if u want to give it a try.


2.) we play a competition called "play with the stars" regularly in our club, but u need a lot of time, or a machine to duplicate boards. (thank god, we have such a machine)

u just have to duplicate one of the zillions of lin-files in nikos archive and write down the already played results, then u can play a regular teammatch parding the bridgecelebrities at the other table. (u obviously better chose a close match, to even up the chances.)

The one time I played doop many years ago, the hands were shown to have come from the Indiana Regional of 3 years previous. This is the likely source of the hands and scores.

Caren, the fields are really weak, the results random, and the hands badly picked. So it's totally random who will win.

Doop refills come from a lot of places, here is a partial list from Baron Barclay's Bridge Supplies

If you want really random things, there are millions and millions of tournament hands around on line (myhands for example). Down some lin files, use Cascades excellent lin converter to get one hand at time, print those out. give to each player and have a go... Cost to you zero. And youi can grab vugraph hands if you prefer to have high level comparisons. BBO Rocks....

yes the doop refills come from a variety of tournaments, usually they are from regionally rated events. Used to be there was a refill order form that came with them and would let you know where the hands were from and what event it was. I dont think they were usually from Nationally rated events but i could be wrong.

Yes I recommend it as a practice, very realistic training for matchpoints competitions.
