What happens is that it logs in and displays the lobby OK, and even speaks "Welcome", but then it crashes. It looks like it's dying when it wants to display the news window, so I suspect it's something browser-related.
Anyone have any ideas?

Now it looks like there's an issue with the symbol font. Suit symbols don't show up in the bidding diagram, movie, or in the hand display when I don't use fancy cards.

You need the Symbol.ttf file from Windows installation.

Non-MB areas seem to display OK. I haven't yet tried playing bridge with it, but kibbitzing is working now.
You can download the beta trial version from http://www.codeweave...products/cxmac/

Then I changed to BROWSER_TYPE=A. Now I get the lobby news window, but it doesn't contain news, it says something like "If you're seeing this, BBO is not installed properly".
So I'm back to BROWSER_TYPE=E. I never really cared much for lobby news, anyway -- it's mostly just ads.

But last Wine versions support MSHTML natively (no need for MozControl), so I'd expect CrossOver having no such need either.

What does it mean to "make it native"?

The news window doesn't pop up at all at login time (like when I use BROWSER_TYPE=E). When I click on the news button, the empty window comes up.

Say, what is the installation process for symbol.ttf? The basic BBO is up & running, but I can't figure out what needs to be done to get this working.

This works, mostly:
I have seen caps on/off not taking, and a freeze when I canceled a quit.
The bidding and play are fine.
1. bbover.ini settings:
[SYSTEM]
LINUX_WINE=Y
BROWSER_TYPE=E
2. Put the symbol.ttf from your windows machine into your Mac's Fonts folder.
Have fun!

For anyone else wanting to do this, the only tricky parts were editing the bbover.ini - I opened it in text edit and changed the WINE=N to Y and the Browser Type to E, and installing the Symbol font. It was easy to follow Barry's instructions (posted above) for where to put it, my problem was getting it, since the only PC I had was Virtual PC on my old Mac and in order to move the font file from that to this Mac, I had to find it on the PC (it was in C -> Windows -> Fonts) and then drag it to the Mac desktop and email it from there to the new Mac. Without the Symbol font, the screen resolution looked wrong, with it, everything is lovely - at least so far. Haven't tried playing yet, just watching Vugraph. But it certainly looks fine.
So thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread and especially Barry for a little extra hand-holding.
