if 1C is natural (i.e. +3), I dont understand pass,
4C is a typical bid you make, in case, you missed
the first chance to show your support to partner.

2)i don't understand why east didn't bid 3nt,i take 4♣ raising as an unbalanced hand.
evolve this inference,it imply short in ♠ or ♦ following 2♠-DBL.should West(Duboin) take a red DBL based on east's actual participation?

Oh no you're right, declarer just ruffs the third diamond with a high trump and plays trump again. Sorry.

The defense might succes in practice, though, if declarer played the trump for 3-1. But of course I'm unfair by allowing E-W to play double dummy and not allowing NS to.

I watched the live broadcast when this hand showed up. At the time, Italy was trailing US by some imps (this was the last hand at this table where B-D played vs Joe Grue and Cheek Curtis. still a few hands not compared yet).

I don't know B-D system, but for me, I just thought that Bocchi must be fishing with his excellent C support. But finally, Bocchi surprised me a lot by finally passing 4SX which imo was a very poor decision.

The defense was excellent and the hand is very complicated. Both sides had chances but finally the contract went one down. (double dummy, defense will always succeed, but the defense is not easy to find at all).

Alas, though the contract went down, but at the other table USA EW (Brad Moss and Geoff Hampson) outbid their counterparts by reaching 5CX which made easily and finally got into the Yeh Brother's Cup final. (Side note, the scores tied after 23 bds and the match was decided by this single bd).
