Well everyone knows the metric system is a scam.

Well I suppose it's a question of what you are used to. If they were to chance the clock to 1 day=1000 milidays instead of 60*60*24 seconds, it would take some time for me to get used to as well, even though of course it would be inherently better.

I suppose for most people it doens't matter if the distance measures are the same as the measures used for people's height since one rarely compare the two anyway. Not to mention the number of Joules required to travel one kilometer by a force of 100 Newton - it is 100,000 Joules, but can you tell me how many calories it takes to travel one mile by a force 10 pound-forces? To me this is realy cool but I realize that to most people it doesn't matter. Btw you can just google on "1 mile * 10 pound-force in calories" so if you're hooked to the internet it maters even less.

On my last account, Microsoft is counting expenses. But the virous check at senders end is very easy and inexpensive. It dont need and hardware modifications or replacement, neither any lengthy software developments. All we have to do contact all computer security check companies, pay them reasonable amounts, and my 15% gross. The said companies can implement them with 4 IF statement, I am sure they know, update or install security package for their respective clients.

Down at the corner bar, you often hear whippersnappers say, "Other than the U.S., the only countries that haven't adopted the metric system are Liberia and Myanmar."

Actuallly the U.S. legalized the metric system for use here 1866 and established it as the U.S. legal standard in 1893. As a people though, we just don't make changes like that overnight. Tradition is important here.

Our car has a temperature and mileage display that switches between systems. I always set it to metric. When my wife notices, she always changes it back.

My mother was a high school librarian, 30+ years in the business.

When she graduated with her Masters of Library Science, she could make Dewey Decimal System jokes - and tell you what most xxx.xxxx entries were from first principles (if not from memory).

When she retired, she admitted she wasn't quite as up on it; sometimes after the first decimal place she'd have to see the book to know what was going on.

I'd say that kind of minutiae skill freaks me out, but I play Precision with 40 pages of system notes...

Michael.

I am sure I haven't written everything down. Of course we play "Berkowitz and Manley" with a few minor changes, so I don't really have to write everything down :-)

Dewey decimal system - there is something that needs to die a quick and painful death. Ever been to the late 790's - they are going out to 3-4 decimal places!

I was thinking this very same thing this morning. I am frankly ticked off about the great Canadian odometer scandal, as well as the impact of drinking while talking on a cell phone in a motorized vehicle.

Just yesterday, a crazy old coot was driving his lawn mower, one that he bought in Toronto, while text messaging his grand-daughter and drinking Jim Beam from a plastic cup. I went over to complain, and I realized that he did not even have an odometer on his lawn mower. I flipped out. The police were called, BY ME, but they arrested me and took me to a hospital for processing. I just got out today, with a silly ankle bracelet. But, boy am I ticked.

:P Be of good cheer. You are simply ahead of your time.

As my late, sainted mother (God rest her soul) used to often say to me: "Sonny, if you are too drunk to drink, you are too drunk to drive."
