I would bid 3.  This hand is not quite as good as it first appears for 3NT.  The clubs may not run, and even if they do, and partner has a diamond stopper, that can still be only 7 tricks.  I am obviously well placed if partner makes any call, and admit I will sometimes miss a white game when partner has something like QJTx of diamonds and out.  5C could also make opposite not that much, but a heart ruff seems somewhat likely as well.

<preparing to be laughed at>

Whew. And I thought I was crazy for thinking I'd bid 3. Score one up for partnership harmony.

So you thought you were crazy, then you found out I agreed with the call, and thought that somehow made you less crazy?

Thanks to all for the answers and suggestions :)

Anyway, on the table the S hand ventured 4 figuring it shld have a play after the 3 raise by E and N then bidded 6.. easily doubled by E and went down 3.

The bidding:
2 - X - 3 - 4
P - 6 - X - AP

The other table played in 4X-4 so it was a double big swing :)

Here are the 4 hands:

Scoring: IMP

You are North, West opens 2 weak preempt. Your bid?
There's also a part 2 to this, would like to know what most pple would do :P

IMO _X = 10, 3N = 8, 3 = 6, 2N = 5.
If partner has a strong hand with , with any luck, he'll bid 3. Then you can bid a firm 3N, place your hand face-down on the table, and start entering the contract in your score-card.

Hi,

If partner showed a strong hand, wouldnt you bid slam with your 3-loser hand? Or at least go for it instead of a 3NT? :)

No but your argument is sensible. Over 2, I prefer double to unilateral actions like 3N or 5 so as to consult partner as to what is the best contract with plenty of room to find a slam in the unlikely event that there is one :). Nevertheless, a 3N rebid shows that we have values in opponent's suit and probably denies good ; so it is quite descriptive. It would be a pity to get too high if partner's values are mostly in . For example, partner held a strong 6 loser hand T9xx - AKJxxxx xx :) But even game is in jeopardy. Unfortunately, with that hand, over double, I would bid 3 (or Lebensohl or Rubensohll - if available) and then, over 3N, persist with 4. Opposite our 3-loser misfit, we are still quite likely to concede a penalty :P

After the actual continuation, (2) _X (3) ??, holding T9xx - AKJxxxx xx,
IMO 4 = 10, 5 = 9, 4 = 8, 6 = 5, 4 = 4, 3 = 3, _X = 2
