Hi

I wasn't able to have the alias I wanted so I ended up with more than one as I tried to get one I was happy with. This made me think that may be this happens to others.

Do you ever release unused aliases back into the pool ?

I ask because I would still like the one I originally asked for and will keep trying if there is any chance it may become available at some future date.

We have a slew of aliases - all that have been created since day 1. Most of them are inactive.

We just moved to a new database, and the easiest way for me to erase the unused ids is to wait XX days (120, maybe) and then erase all users that have not been accessed in XX days. So in another 100 days :)

I'll make a forward note to try again in July :)

Periodically dumping unused aliases will be a help, Uday.

I think it would be nice if an alias user who knows he or she is not going to reuse an alias could explicitly release it to the pool somehow (probably only after an "are you really sure?" prompt of some sort has been given.) I think I once created an alias that I didn't need (I have pointers to it in my directories on my computer) and I would be happy to give it up.

Hi

Well it is now over 120 days and I have been trying to obtain one of the unused aliases - but still no luck :-(
I appreciate it isn't a priority but InternetBridgeDomain doesn't like aliases with underscores in them.

The BIL is scored by IBD and I received an email which said:
We do have a challenge in respect of the 73 members who have used dashes and underlines in their log in names. ...........coding for recording results and awarding points does not accept the dashes and underlines and so the results are not awarded to you and other results can be distorted. If you want to play in ANY of our tournaments / play of the hand sessions and you have a dash or underline in your log in name you will have to dream up another log in name WITHOUT one.

My current alias is kriss_ because kriss was already in use although no hands have been played by this alias in some considerable time. Any chance of releasing those unused aliases soon ? I could use a different one but I kind of got use to being called kriss.

Thanks

Is there not a concern that a player may confuse you with a predecessor who used the same alias? Perhaps it is not important if he does? But what if that player had earned a reputation for (eg) poor ethics? Would you want to risk inheriting that baggage?
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

Kriss/Kriss_

I have altered the Kriss password so it matches the Kriss_ password, and you can now login with either account.

If you decide to use Kriss, let me know via email - uday@ - and I'll xfer your friends/enemies over as well.
