Scoring: IMP

RHO opens 2S. The opponents will presumably lead a spade against your final contract. How should the auction go to find 6D? Is it impractical to find a 4-4 slam when you have a 5-4 fit? Would you have avoided clubs for diamonds in real life?

Hi,

finding 28HCP slams, with both hands being
(semi-) bal. is not easy, espesially if they
open with a preempt.

Most likely you will end up in 3NT.

(2S) - X (1) - (Pass (2)) - 2NT (3)
(Pass) - 3C (4) - (Pass) - 3S (5)
(Pass) - 3NT (6) - all pass

(1) what else?
(2) I am not going to make it harder with a likely
preemptive raise to 3S
(3) Lebensohl, starting the mission "wrong sidening"
the contract, the alternative is 3S
(4) min / default, this will kill most slam ambitions
(5) asking for a stopper
(6) mission accomplished, this will finally have killed
what is left of slam ambitions, wasted values in
their suit + min.

With kind regards
Marlowe

With 28 points in two balanced hands the reality is that almost everyone will miss slam.

If you play some relay system then you might get to slam and then it would be automatic to choose the 4=4 fit.

Edit: But I just noticed the 2 opening - so relay is out.

The opponents are nv and have 9 spades.

The bidding may start out:
(2s)=x=(3s)=?

For whatever reason there was no spade raise at the table by partner of the preemptor.

1) Agree with jdonn's sequence.
2) For a slam, the 4-4 fit is better than the 5-4 fit VERY frequently (majority?).

Getting to a slam on this hand is just too hard.

ROFLOL. Hell, I'd be thrilled to get to a making game with these two hands after the spade interference.

Here is the auction:

2 - X - P - 4N (minors)
P - 5N (I can't decide, you decide) - P - 6 (maybe we need the pitch and anyway I read in somebody's blog that 6 always makes this summer) - Float
