I tried to search for the text string "XYZ" for information about that convention, but I am having trouble searching since it gives me a warning about it being less than four characters in length.
Can someone explain how I can search for all posts in these forums with the text string
xyz
appearing anywhere in the post?

Try searcing for "xyz convention" in quotes or "xyz response". Be sure to change the time-line for the search from 30 days to "from the beginning".
The first of those options turn up many, many threads.
PS.. the requirement for four characters in a search is painful. You might try to search this site using google and search for xyz (advanced google feature to limit the search to this forum). To do this, copy the following line of text and paste it into google search bar...
xyz [forums.bridgebase.com]
That turns up all the pages with hits along with a little bit of text you can read before deciding to go take a look.
USe that hint for any hard three letter searches in these forums.
