As for tv, screw it. You aren't missing anything. -- Ken Berg
I have come to realise it is futile to expect or hope a regular club game will be run in accordance with the laws. -- Jillybean

Michael Jackson started his career as a 5 year old, in the 60's. For people from the 60's to the 90's this was the music of their youth and his death reminds them of their own mortality.

Believe it or not it stretched into my youth too. My mother had the 'Bad' album and I listened to it constantly when I was very young.

Perhaps you still young enough to feel immortal?

His career didn't span as much time as Elvis Presley, but I think it's safe to say that when he as at the top he was as popular as Elvis had been to the previous generation, and Frank Sinatra to the generation before that. And he wasn't a flash in the pan like so many teenybopper idols.

Well there's no question he was a great entertainer. I couldnt get over the saturation coverage even here on the other side of the world.
The national news on a popular network devoted its first 20 mins to MJ, including interviewing a local school girl who was too upset to go to school and a fan who spent the day sobbing in his MJ shrine at the back of his house.
Of course, the real issue now is... who is the new King of Pop? Aaah... time for a new poll, I think.

controversy beyond the grave, yet
What fortune?
Reports say he did not even pay his own rent.
1) I suppose his debts may never be paid.
2) so all future fortunes can go to kids.

I think it's unfortunately part of our culture that we try to own celebrities to the point where they turn crazy, get addicted to something and eventually die. It's not just Michael Jackson, it's also about Britney, Amy, you name it.
It's sick that there are people making their living simply chasing stars making pictures and making their life a hell, to the point where they can even simply go shopping.
Paparazzi, thank you for destroying the lives of those who liven up our life with their creativity. Now go get some decent job, thanks.
