Well they might exist but if they were known to exist they probably wouldn't be referred to as hypothetical.

Don't forget to consider whether or not the little brown bear would do what little brown bears do in the (non-existent) woods.

That is, if the bear actually exists.

One thing I know for certain is that any hypothetical situation involving something embarassing, like a bad rash for example, are never actually hypothetical. Not that I'm speaking from first hand experience of course.
