I was happily watching Luis in action in the BIL yesterday, stocking up on caffeine and answering innumerable lobby messages (it's called multi tasking B) )

When - poof ! the screen went black - totally black - reaction <edited!>

Relief :) the box initiated a restart all on it own accord ;) did scanning and all sorts (using it's initiative ! ) then eventually , thankfully, back online :D

Log In to BBO - Firewall goes bonkers time after time I had to keep telling it "I KNOW this programme let it do ANYTHING it LIKES !!! - let me back on there for crying out loud :o Finally <sigh> it got the message and all was well I was safely back in the BIL

BUT - there is a BUT all is NOT well

Please put your collective computering expertise to work and tell me

WHERE HAS MY BRIDGE.EXE GONE ????????

I keep getting
Program Not Found
Windows Cannot find Bridge. exe
This program is needed for opening files of type "Bridge Movie"
Location of Bridge.exe
c:\ nothing there

Clicked on the Locate button and went on a lengthy ticky tour of who knows where and not a bridge.exe anywhere :(

On my computer there is no bridge.exe in the bbo folder.
IIRC that file was required in previous versions (long time ago).
I'd recommend you updating (or installing) the current version
of the bbo client software (version 3.8.0) "over itself"
in your current bbo folder.

Furthermore I'd strongly recommend you to back up
your harddisk (or at least the most valuable data) and
then run a harddisk checker program.

When your computer crashed, the bridge.exe was corrupted. Other things may have been lost as well.

That's just an executable, so there shouldn't be anything stopping somebody from emailing it to you. Then put it in the directory that they got their copy from, and away you go.

Executables via e-mail should only be accepted from
persons one highly trusts in, and whose computer
is KNOWN to be free of viruses.

That's a matter of "safer hex".

Just go to www.bridgebase.com, download the installation for the BBO client, and install. Seems like the easiest way to fix things to me. Just remember to check your options, like chat logging, once you have it working again. Good luck!

Bridge.exe is not one of our programs.

Apparently it is some other program that tries to take
over the .lin file extension and become the default
viewing program for that file type.

Installing BBO from scratch should solve the problem.

For me Bridge.exe is found in the GIB folder (in C:\Program Files) - Have you got that program Maureen?

The BBO program is NetBridgeVu.exe which should be in your C:\ Bridge Base Online folder.

Well this has proved to be an interesting little saga :)

I had not had time to come back to BBF to see what had been said when it was time for Mink's Tournament (which btw he has been doing for the BIL members every Friday for the past 8 months :) )

He offered to fix it for me saying that if I enabled NetMeeting I could let him loose amongst my files. :o

I did not know I had a NetMeeting  but there it was !

Well that was quite the most fascinating thing - watching my cursor, over which I no longer had control, :o zipping here there and everywhere

Well the long and short of it is - I was the culprit. Just prior to the 'black out' happening I had been in the BBO folder which had become something a shambles with all the different lists and condition of contest etc and being a tidy Kiwi at heart I had dallied and done some 'housekeeping' - putting things in sub folders

NetbridgeVu does not like being in a Folder and had it would seem gone on strike ;) Now I should have known ! we all know BBO is extra special :D

Once Karl had restored it to it's solitary glory everything worked just fine. :D

Bridge.exe - who cares where it is, not BBO - then I am glad to know it cannot be found .

A BIG Thank you to Karl for making it right :D and thanks to Fred, Jt, Ack, Burn & Denis for your suggestions. :)

bridge.exe is what GIB's double dummy solver is called. I'm not sure whether it is needed to run GIB, or it's just an added file in the GIB distribution. I've used it in the past in combination with dealer (hand generator) for simulations. Useful, but I imagine of limited interest to most bridge players.

I'm sure there are other programs out there that use the same name.
