Red vss White, You are south, holding:

S: Q982
H: QJ3
D: AKJ973
C: --

West, playing precision, opens 1H and is raised to 2H by his pd.

Now do you bid 3D or not?

I'd double.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

3 is fine. I don't feel like ELCing at the 5-level.

there ain't gonna be any ELCing because they're playing precision, remember? LHO isn't gonna jump around.

dbl + ELC for me :)

If I understand the OP, we are being asked us to choose between 3 and pass, rather than 3 and double.

Anyway, I bid 3 which looks normal to me, but I suppose double could work too. I wouldn't pass.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

You are right. My question is about choosing between 3D and pass.

I did think about the possibility of dbl then bid diamond at some level. But I think this hand is a bid short of doing that.

3D seems clear.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Remember? Yes, and because I remember they are playing precision I could predict exactly the brutal scenario: Opener has a very nice heart/club two-suiter and jumps to game after my double. Partner with pretty much the rest of the clubs and short diamonds will guess declarer has a red two-suiter and the roof caves in on us.

Forgetting all that, I think I would like a diamond lead on defense. there must be a way to convey that information :D

aqua, agree that is possible. But it is only one of the very many scenarios, of which most end up with LHO passing our bid.

Sure, if LHO weren't limited, a jump to game would be way more likely. But that's not the case.
