A while back Fred expalined to me how to convert bridge movies (whole play sessions) to text files. I know it had something to do with selecting "open bridge movie" instead of logging in to BBO, and then a result fiel would appear in your BBO directory. But, I've forgotten the specifics and can't seem to fumble my way through. Can someone refresh my memory?

Thanks,
Tim

Two ways, download the wornderful linconverter.com written by cascade. Search for linconverter with google.

Second way, open the fil eyou want using the same open movie on your computer from the netbridgeviu software. From the Vugraph page at press the "print" button which is down by the help button... IMPORTANT... see below

1) Press the print key BEFORE you view the hands. You can't go view the hands and come back to the vugraph page and print... you will need to reload the file.

2) It will ask you if you want to save it to a file. Say yes. The file is saved as MATCH.TXT and can be found in your Bridge Base Online directory (same one with the netbridgevu.exe program.

Ah, yes, now I remember. But, when I open the movie, I am taken right to a hand. There is no "vugraph" page.

I've checked out linconverter. When I used the LintoText.exe, there was no play record. When I used Linconverter.exe and checked the "include play" option, the player names disappeared.

The movies I wish to convert are from a tournament. It seems a pain to have to convert each round. Why can't the movie file from a tournament be a single file rather than broken up by round?

Send me the files (lin files) and explain the problem and I will try and fix the program.

I have ammended the textfile output so that the output now looks like this with the players names added:

hand.txt - sample hand

I posted a sample for you to upload since contiguous spaces do not format well here.

I will post a new exe in the next 24 hrs.

If you want something sooner let me know.

It's been years since I left OKBridge but one of the things I remember was that whenever you played in a tournament you would get a text e-mail listing all hands, auctions, cardplay from your table, and results on the board from all tables. Is it possible to set this up for BBO tourneys (perhaps for a small fee?) I realize all of this information is available at the myhands page, but it is quite convenient to be able to review the whole tournament little by little with the scroll wheel.

Yes, the okbridge hand record in table format that showed the hand, the contract and result at each table, the opening lead, and if memory serves me right, the play, was very nice (also the score in imps or mp).

With uday having the tournments pulled out with all hand results on grouped under it, it should be possible for one of our really clever users (Erkson or Cascade or others), to write a program to extract a single copy of each hand along with the traveller and paste that in a text file.. one hand behind the other. And if they really were clever, and wanted to, i suspect they could include the play and or bidding for each table in the table format as well if anyone thought that important.

Which such a tool, those interested in getting this information, could go harvest it not only for tournments they played in, but any tournment as long as they stayed posted, without putting extra burden on the bbo software or having a lot of stuff being emailed that people don't want.

Thanks, that looks good.

One sugegstion for improved output: put the play record beside the deal rather than below it. I like to use the text files for post-play e-mail discussions, and making the hand information more compact reduces the amount of needed scrolling when reading the notes that players add.

Again, thanks for what you've provided, it will make things much easier.

That change will take me a little longer to fix.

I will have a look and see what I can do.

I started developing the program for exactly your purpose - email discussion of the hands with my partner.

The latest version of LinConverter is available for download.

I will work on some other enhancement in the near future but probably not until after this weekend.

Thanks, Wayne. I look forward to the enhancements, but already appreciate your efforts.

On the list of enhancements, you might include appending the converted text to a file, rather than creating a new file. That would make things more convenient when converting tournament hands (which get spilt up into multiple files, one for each round).

I hope you understand none of these suggestions is meant to criticize the work you've done. Once again, I'm already appreciative of your efforts and willingness to share your work.

Thanks,
Tim
