The smiley with a sunglass is supposed to look 'cool', but in all honesty they're lame. Plus, they cause great grief when otherwise serious posts with a systematic list, headed by letters (e.g. a) through f) ) become unreadable when unwanted smileyfaces intrude! Indeed, a recent survey reached the conclusion that 83% of all sunglass smileys are accidental products of lists, not attempts at looking cool! Once and for all, let's say no to the sunglasses!

Either that, or allow a tag to turn the smileys off in a block of text.

Or it could be replaced by this smilie, that expressing a great admiration for the brilliant ideas/postings ;-)

Its not witchcraft.

The sunglassed smiley was a chain smoker and spent too much time in jazz clubs. His gums bled, and his triglycerides were through the roof. Aberlour got him on exercise program, but the purple coloring is from the COPD he developed.

There is an option (in the full editor, options) to turn off the stupid things (original expression redacted).

It even allows you to put in real, honest-to-Ghu smilies, rather than the obnoxious, stupid images (animated or not). See? :-) b) B) 8)

The magic word for these pieces of excrement is "emoticons".

Obviously there's an option for that, but perhaps I want to make a post where I use smileys and lists indexed by letters.

A) You'll have to live with it.
B) It takes additional effort to turn them off.
C) Oh crap, there isn't a "B" anymore.

I do agree that there is very little reason to have a sunglass smiley, since lists are more common IMO. Or another simple solution would be to make the Sunglass smiley something like "x)"

Considering how often posters use (x) as s dbl icon that would bring B) in every second posting heh

Beheading won't work when the smiley has just the head and no body. Or maybe that's the most effective way to get rid of it.

But I take the point. It's true that I've had the stupid face appear when I meant to write point "B". However, I also don't think this is something worth getting rid of. Someday when there's nothing to do....or if someone can post the exact way to get rid of this smiley...

How about making bx) produce it, and leave B-) for lists

I have to admit, that that possibility never entered my mind. See my previous post for a guess as to why...

Note: I hate that I have to turn the stupid things off every single post, when what I actually want is "never use the execrable things". Can't that be something that is a user-global setting rather than a post-only setting?

From documentation at: http://community.inv...management-r166

Quote

The emoticons management screen can be accessed by going to Admin CP --> Look & Feel --> Manage Emoticons.
...
Any changes you make to emoticons will not affect existing posts. For example, if there are posts with the emoticon in and you delete it - those posts will continue to show the icon, but it won't be available in future posts.
...
The "activation text" refers to what a user may type into their post to use the emoticon (for example, to display , users type in :-) ).
To change the activation text for an emoticon, simply edit the contents of the textbox below it to the desired activation text and press the "Update emoticons" button.
...

If the activation text were changed to "B-)" most of the issues would go away.
You must know the rules well - so that you may break them wisely!

Since this smiley is indeed quite annoying, it would be quite nice if you could take the 90 seconds to make this change.
