I think GIB North has an absolutely routine 2 rebid here. Incidentally, one South rebid 1NT and did indeed get 2 from his partner. I would think 3 is, if anything, better over 1NT than over 2, though still bad.

Of course, if GIB played WJS, rather than these weird Soloway Jump Shifts which never come up and noone understands, then this would be even easier.

It's adding points for the short suits. GIB doesn't appreciate that shortness in partner's suits is not valuable.

Sure, some sort of misfit valuation would help. But even if GIB thinks it has 10-12 total points, I'd say the "strong suit" requirement should count for something more than this.

Good point, I'm not sure what its criteria for "strong suit" is. Judging from that example, it seems like 6 cards to 2 honors seems to be enough.
