I have doubled with all of them. For me, 3) is automatic (I'd do with with a Q less facing an unpassed hand, which is the agreed style in my regular partnership). I don't really know if I'm meant to double on 2) but was seduced by the vulnerability (or rather the lack thereof).

On the first one I'd prefer to double with better diamonds. On the Second one double seems fine. On the third one I'm taling my chances with an initial pass and a later action.

The GIB Gallery has recently determined that a 1 overcall is virtually required on the first hand.

1 (the first round), x, x for me. The first one I'd pass if I was vulnerable (and make an obvious pass now), the second one I could go either way. I am a big believer in X with the third one.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

1] overcall 1 with 1...now pass
2]X should show a TOX of
3]pass ...your verbage should be "game all" not "love all" unless what is in the parentheses is really (all white}

1, X, X

For the first hand make sure you have agreement with p on the meaning of double, some people play it for penalty.

First 2 are clear Doubles imo (if I didn't overcall 1 ofcourse ;) ). The last one I prefer pass, but with another style Dbl would be obvious.

My partner doubled on the last one. When we were discussing style later, he asked how many of his actions I totally disagreed with, and that was the only one. I hate double.

I don't know what we actually did on the first two because I don't recognise them, but I have voted on what I would do.

Well second hand is from the same match as third one, just 2 boards later (reverse chronological order here)

My partner doubled on all of them and I made 1 less trick than I should on all of them.

I collected:

-380 on first

-800 on second

-1400 on third

I'd double on all three. Only the third one seems controversial.

I hate a 1 overcall on the first one. Overcalling a four-card suit is OK when it's pure, but this one has a flaw in every suit.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I'd overcall 1H on the first one, what are the four flaws? As I see it, this hand satisfies the cherdano rule: 10-14 HCP, non-vulnerable, a very good suit and not suitable for a double.

I had the third one at the table and doubled. Why do you hate this Frances? I consider it the most automatic of the three, but gnasher considers it also the most controversial. What is the alternative to double, I would hate 1NT on jack-third in a major and pass just looks bad.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

What's the whole auctions(or even better whole hands)? Maybe it's not a problem with X/pass/overcall but the problem of later auction.

DBL-DBL-Pass for me.

On the third one the problem is that partner has a 4342 with the only high card the king of spades, and when 3rd seat redoubles you have nowhere to go. There were body parts strewn all over the room on this hand.

It's the wrong vulnerability, and it has the wrong spade holding. I think pass is just normal, as does my husband. (My partner thinks double is just normal, so there you go...)
