I've never played MSS with anyone except GIB, so I'm unfamiliar with the nuances. Was I supposed to do something different to avoid landing in this bad contract?

With Gib, you really just need to man up and bid 3NT. The problem came when Gib bid 3H with a stiff K.

By the way, why does 4C say club fit OR no stopper? 3C already showed support.

That description also says "2-6 D". I don't see how I could have more than 4 diamonds at that stage of the auction. (It's possible that I even should bid 4 instead of 4 if I have 4 of them.)

Your bids were normal continuation according to North's bidding. Just GIB could avoid that cuebid with such holding in it with nothing more then normal game.

If GIB held A instead of singleton K, 3(which might lead to 3NT/5) would be much appropriate and reasonable continuation after 3.

Current GIB has improved that consideration for stiff top honors, but it was after minor transfers.

Will be applied after Minor Stayman too.

The description of 4/4( in case you have bid 3/3/4 as here ) would be fixed too.
