I think 4H stands out, having already doubled we are showing a flexible hand. We will often have 5 hearts or 6 not great hearts for doubling and bidding hearts. Partner will not pass with 5 spades and 2 hearts. Yes, it is possible we need to defend 4D X but I think it is unlikely compared to something like partner having 4 spades and 3 hearts and bidding 4S and it being bad.

Double again. Partner can't know your double was this good or that you have a void necessarily. Still flexible, and spades can play fine if partner has anything better than 4 weakies.
There is a big difference between a good decision and a good result. Let's keep our posts about good decisions rather than "gotcha" results!

Wow Justin in a minority of one. Times have changed in the forum.

But I had bid 4 too, this does not show a very strong hand with a onesuiter in hearts, but a very strong three suited hand with 5 hearts- "exactly" what I have. I had prefered a 4504 with even better hearts too. But you cannot have it all.
Kind Regards

Roland

4H. Don't have much else to add that this shows a good flexible hand with 5H and the best we can achieve to find the right game.

4H, I like to give my partner the freedom to frequently pass 3/4 level takeout double, the cost is not being able to X when ive got a void.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

wouldn't we bid the same way with a rock crushing hand with self sufficient hearts though. Is partner really gonna pull to his own suit in this auction with 52 in the majors?

Given our lousy hearts and the tap certainly coming in our hand do we even wanna be in most 5-3 fits where partner holds bad hearts?

I'm just not so sure I even wanna play 4H as this has developed, and it seems like partner is leaving this double in a lot of the time.

partner is 4-3 in the majors, 4 will make +620

sadly partner has KJx onside!, wich means 7 tricks are cashing against 4 X.

But does partner let the double stand, or bid 4? If the latter, how does the Moysian go?

rduran, with a 1 suiter in hearts over 3D you must overcall some number of hearts (like 4H). Double then 4H is not stronger than a 4H overcall, it just shows a different hand type, one that is more flexible.

partner has J9xx J10x KJx xxx I am pretty sure he would pass the double, 4 might make since Q10 are bare on RHO's hands.
