This hand is from Arena Challenge. I sat in south seat.

Not sure why south robot upgraded a featureless flat 14 into a strong notrump. Ultimately though, I think north needs to find a better call than 2, which is not forcing.

edit: wait, you were south? That makes more sense, although the diagram is wrong.

Having doubled clubs to inquire about majors and not finding any, 3C would be F, although 3N comes to mind, a contract that rates to make.

While any player would play Arena Challenge, always sat in south seat. However when north Gib gets declarer, the system will automatically switch seat so as to let human player be a declarer.

This hand demonstrates two deficiencies of GIB's bid explanations.

  • Does South first pass deny four spades? GIB should stop presuming that passes don't merit explanations.
  • North made a bid whose explanation includes "8+" opposite a 1NT opener. This looks like his hand is unlimited and therefore his bid should be forcing. Many bids, most specifically unlimited bids, should include information to identify whether or not they're forcing.

Edit: It's likely that GIB actually thinks 2 is forcing; human passed the bid, not GIB.

and yet 8 total points is not strong enough to force
