1C-X-3H-X where 1C is 3+cards and 3H is natural and preemptive.

IMPs. We open quite light, so partner's double will be a bit more classical opposite a passed hand.

Imo it's 100% t/o. Partner shouldn't pass without AQJx in their suit.
With given hand I am comfortable bidding 3S though.

The general rule is that when one suit has been doubled for takeout, subsequent doubles of a different suit are penalty. Maybe it is logical for this to be an exception, but I would not treat it as one unless specifically discussed. A penalty double of 3♥ does have some appeal but I would probably chicken out and just bid 3♠.

Yeah I like this rule but only if they bid without jumping.
Anyway I agree that it should probably be penalty by default I just think it's inferior agreement.

This thread should probably be linked to the one about what a T/O double of 1x should look like. They seem to be red vs. white.
We just have to decide whether us playing our 7 or 8-card fit at the 3-level will work out better than letting them play their 7 or 8-card fit at the 3-level (or 4C in that seven-card fit).
Double is penalty, and I will take a big gamble that it will score well.

as nigel its penalty by agreement althou I doubt its best. 3♠ or pass with that hand depending on vulnerability, with opps vul I´d try 3♠

I think Rosenberg mentioned on Bridgewinners that double of a WJS after our TOx was primarily penalty.
Double looks pretty juicy to me, and spade contracts are threatened by a heart ruff.

Those red and white areas of the diagram indicate the vulnerability.

Do you need to distinguish 3S=5+S from X=3 or 4xS?
Treat this double like a responsive double, ie. 4xS.
That frees up Pass as just not liking this auction, 4m as ONLY this suit.

The double of 1♣ should promise 7 cards in the majors and
at least 3 cards in each major. Therefore they probably have
8 or fewer hearts. We have 7 to 9 spades. Looks like this
board has 15 to 17 tricks. Either pard or RHO doesn't have
his bid or is at the lower end of the range.
Some of you guys are probably loyal to pard. In this vulnerability
I tend to believe the vulnerable player is more likely to have
his bid. I pass. Plan to lead the ♠6 and hope we beat them.

"How takeout-orientated is the second double?"
Not really - it is more penalty oriented for most people that I know. Wether it shows exactly 4 spades and something useful in ♥ or it shows less than 4 spades and penalty per se and which is best - don't know. If your RHO would bid 3♦ X would be t/o for most people I think, showing equal majors.
At matchpoints I would double, in IMPs I would bid 3♠ or pass.

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
