MOSCITO auction

3 - 3N
4 - 4
6

3N shows 7 slam points
4 starts the scan
4 shows 1-2 controls in Diamonds and (0 or 3 controls) in Spades

At this point in time, RR is marked with the King of Hearts and the AK of Diamonds
(He could also hold Q of Clubs)
At this point in time, the slam is at least 50% even if RR doesn't hold the Jack of Spades
(50% chance that the Spade Ace is onside, plus chances that RR holds the Queen of Clubs)

If you want you can scan with 4N and place the spade Jack as well...

.. 3 (shape)
3 - 3NT (7 QP)

Besides the actual hand, Axxx Kxx Kxxxx x is on a finesse, Axxx Jxx AQxxx x is one of two finesses, xxxx Kxx AQxxx Q is on a finesse. It's worth at least a try.

4 - 4 (ask, zero or two top diamonds)

Zero top diamonds is not possible; if we ask again partner will never bid 5+ so:

4 - 4 (ask, zero or two top spades)

This is clearly xxxx Kxx AQxxx Q or xxxx Kxx AKxxx x; both of these are decent slams.

6 - Pass

Straube

3-3N QP ask, 7
4-4 PCB, even diamonds
4-4 ask, even spades
4N-5 ask, odd heart w/ small club w/ king in first odd suit (i.e. HK)
6

At the point of 4 I would in practice just jump to 6H because I know that pd has the HK and DA and DK. I hope for the SJ or the SA onside or perhaps 3/3 diamonds as a fallback.

...3 4351 GF
3 - 3N QP ask; 7 (don't like RKC here without a big trump fit)
4-4 denial ask; 1-2, no spades (5 QP missing, so missing A and either both Q or just K)
P

It might seem pessimistic to give up here, but asking for more info with 4 won't help - the answer will be 5 for sure, showing 1-2, 2, only 1 (since spades not scanned til 3rd round since none), and now we can't even stop in 5 since that's the next step to keep asking. So picking between game or slam, with only 19 QPs and no great fits / side suits, I took the low road.

Note: I differ from hrothgars methods in that I count singletons for QPs (but just don't scan those suits), so I couldn't be sure of the K.

Ultra Club Relay / Copious Canape Club (C3)

1 16+ - 1 = 4+ or balanced 11+
1 RELAY - 2 = 4 & 5/
2 SAB - 3 = 3+ & 4 Controls (AKK exactly)
4 CAB - 5 = AK
6 or 6NT? I choose 6 as 6NT might need the J
Ultra Relay: see Daniel's web page: https://bridgewithda...19/07/Ultra.pdf
C3: Copious Canape Club is still my favorite system. (Ultra upgraded, PM for notes)

We need 7+ QPs to have any hope at all and on a bad day, the 7 QP holding could be A, AQ of . RKC seems really sub-optimal on this hand:

...3 - 3N (QP ask, 7 QPs)

At this point, even opposite the dreaded AXXX XXX AQXXX x, we are odds on to make 5 so:

4...4 (DCB; A/K of , AKQ of or nothing)

Responder must have XXXX KXX AKXXX x or better and slam is ~50% at worst:

For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

3-3 (shape ; QP ask)
3NT-4 (7 ; r)
4-6 (1/2 in and 0/3 in ; xxxx-Kxx-AKxxx-x is known)

Enough chances for slam, even without J.
