After learning the hard way, TWICE, that you can't install a BBO update while WinAmp is streaming audio, I installed a fresh install onto the machine.

I feel like my machine, which is a new Toshiba A70-DD1 (which I will use the metaphor of a car), has been given a new drive line, fatter tires, and a six speed sequential semiautomatic gearbox. It acts like it was designed for the Autobahn, maybe Spa-Francorchamps, maybe the Rally of Finland. It's almost as if someone took 300kg of ballast out, unleashed it on a track, and told it to run like it stole something.

I spilled Coke all over myself this early morning at the speed and responsiveness of BBO. Literally I confess, drooled. I drooled so bad that with the Coke I spilled I was a blabbering mess. First time ever for a piece of SOFTWARE that I drooled, but yes I did it, at 3.30am on a cold snowy morning.

Confession is very good for the soul. This, gang, is a mighty big leap in overall customer giddiness.

Thanks for the good news, Dwayne.

I have received several e-mails that suggest the same thing: 3.9.9 is indeed much faster and more stable and any previous version of the software. Looks like we will begin the "autoupgrade" process in a few days.

hate to throw a damper on, but just now i had a whitescreen for a good 5 seconds at logon... remember, i've never had whitescreen at any time other than logon (except long ago when i used to run yahoo im at the same time, but i no longer do that)...

i have a pretty much state of the art pc (which the diagnostic tool probably told you guys), running xp pro... not sure if this matters but bbo was packed, over 5600 people

Luke,

I am pretty sure what you are seeing is not the "white screen" thing that we have been talking about.

Do you see the "Play Bridge!" button (for example) when BBO is in the state you describe? If yes, that is not the "white screen" condition.

What you are seeing (if I am right about what you are seeing) is the lobby "filling up" with players. None of the players are displayed until your client knows about all of the players.

Also, whiteness is the "lobby news" window is not a problem.

With 3.9.8, with only BBO running, there were times when CPU usage would spike at 100% for several seconds. With 3.9.9, the average CPU utilization is dramatically decreased but I have still observed short spikes to 100%. These spikes are not long enough to cause the white screen condition though.

Thanks for confirming Luke.

We continue to receive strong evidence that 3.9.9 is a winner. The chances of it being released to the general membership in the next couple of days are getting better and better.

3.9.9 looks good, although I had to slow down the card animation, it was too fast  I have never seen the white screen thing at all, but this is a nice computer with 1GB of RAM and I am always running lots of other programs.

Dear Bearmum,

There are upgrades that never become public !

The version 3.9.3 you are running is the last public version, am I right ?

And as Fred says, the next public one will surely be 3.9.9.
