Our partnership style is to pass 1nt with flat mediocre 8's and flat as a pancake spotless 9's so 1 here. Our bonus is that we can upgrade chunky 14's with 5 card suits. Either style works but you can't upgrade on one end AND downgrade on the other.

This seems like a non-problem that many have turned into a problem.

I have an unremarkable 3334 18 count. I am going to treat it that way.

1 intending to rebid 2NT.
