Live Bridge Scores? How does it work?

I played live bridge for the first time tonight and noticed that players receive points or scores (?). Could someone explain what happens with these points. I thought I understood that it is possible to earn ACBL points playing on this site? Thanks for any insight!!

If you are an ACBL member and play in an ACBL sanctioned game (either live or on BBO), any masterpoints you earn will be automatically credited to you.
