Edit: 2H is reverse and GF
3 is 4th suit forcing.
When do you bid 3 and when 3?
Is 3 showing points in and/or is it showing extras and -slam interest?

The actual hand and bidding were:
IMPs

Lead: small
You can comment on the bidding (I'm especially interested in 3) and recommend a play line.

I think Ken Rexford plays 3 as showing club support (we couldn't make a forcing club raise before without bypassing 3NT).

But the most natural approach would be to play 3 as showing 56.

Alternatively, 3 could show something in space so partner only needs half a stopper in spades to bid 3NT.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

I am assuming "Walsh" meant the natural response structure where we have already created a game force with longer diamonds than hearts ---not T-Walsh where we have only shown hearts.

If the former, then we are already in a G.F. auction, Diamonds are trumps for the moment, and 3S should be something like Helene's alternative...a half-stop probe for 3NT. If we have clubs we can bid clubs over 3D (an archaic concept?). We won't have club support, a heart suit, and longer Diamonds ---and still be interested in 3NT.

I don't know transfer walsh or how you should handle interference so I will pass on that part

More standard walsh if the bidding starts out 1c=1d then south needs to rebid 1s to show his shape.

At some point now south can show his 4-1-3-5 shape and north can show a gf hand. With a minimum north can make the decision to play in 3nt at that point.

South knowing of the 8+ d fit and having extras for his bidding has a tough decision whether to pass 3nt or push on.

The bidding might go:

1c=1d(walsh)
1s(5-4)=2h(nat and gf, 5-4)
3d=3nt

Yes, In 1st bidding I wanted to show normal Walsh and therefore GF with -fit

3 shows a half-stopper.., so 3 would be no -stopper?
And both can be real slam interest what you show later if you would continue over 3NT?
Is SJx (like in actual hand) ok to bid 3S?

BTW: against 6 opps did lead a small . I played A and continued with AK. Is that best or would you play differently?
