2d

no problem yet.

I will not gamble on forcing to game at MP.

Pard being a paased hand is allowed to make a nonforcing suit bid to show some values or a cuebid to force. if they pass we should be ok at MP.

2 for me as well. Who knows, maybe pard can come up with a 2 bid.

The plan is simple: drive to 4 by myself and double 4 if I'm outbid. Will however bid 5 if pard happens to support me at some stage.

This kind of hand is a matter for agreement and to some extent it depends on the age of your partner. Traditionally this 8.5 PT hand would comfortably be worth a double. Modern bidders tend to raise the bottom end of their double-then-bid quite a lot, especially for 2 level overcalls, and will get their suit in immediately to avoid having to do it at the 5 level later. Finally, as we are "doing badly" there is the option of just jumping somewhere like 5. This would be quite tempting if up against a "bid one more" pair but is unlikely to be the percentage action.
