My computer opens these files in Lotus WordPro word-processor, and they are all but unintelligible. I see nowhere that I can tell the dumb computer which program to open the files with. How can I open them so I can read them? Thanks!

Click on windows explorer
Find a lin movie file
Right click on it
Choose the option "Open with...."
Choose "browse" and find netbridgevu
Be sure to check the box "Always use this program to open this kind of program""

Then click ok...

there you go. this is for files saved on your computer.

Or

1) right click on the file saved on your computer.

2) choose "open with"

3) select program

4) netbridgevu

Hmmm...my computer has saved these files as Lotus WordPro files, not .lin files, and when I right-click, I get no option about which program to open them with. So far I can see no way to save these files as .lin files...my computer automaticaly makes Lotus WordPro files out of them. :) HELP!

renaming them sounds like the only option now... right click>rename>something.lin ... are the new files being saved as lin and can you open them?

I have a problem in the same area. After I got a new computer I can't open the movies from the vugraph archives or myhands any more.

What can I do? Remember that I am absolutely clueless as far as PC's are concerned, so please be specific, preferably in Danish ;)

An odd duck...

Ok try this..

1. Go to START MENU
2. Choose "all programs" then "windows accessories" then "windows explorer"
3. Change to directory C:\Bridge Base Online
4. right click on file name "demo.lin"
5. When the menu opens, click "properties" (last option)
6. Under type of file, it should say "bridge movie" but more importantly
7. Under Open with it should say "NetBridgeVu". If it says Wordpro this is a problem

If it says wordpro. Follow these instructions.
8. click the "change button"
9. Browse around until you find the NetBridgeVu.exe program (in C:\Bridge Base Online), and choose that.

If it said NetBridgeVu, get back to us. This must be a browser problem if the file extension is correctly assigned.

There is another option. If your computer is running windows 9x, you can hold down the shift key while right clicking on the file to get the "Open With" option to appear for files that are already associated with another program. This will allow you to change it as described above.

Unfortunately, this no longer works in WinXP as far as I know. In that case, there is another solution, similar to that provided by Ben. The only difference is that it saves you having to locate a .LIN file on your computer. In Windows Explorer, you can click the Tools menu, select Folder Options, then the File Types tab. Scroll down the list of file extensions shown until you come to LIN. Then click change and select NetBridgeVu from the list. Optionally, you can reach Folder Options from the Control Panel.

The file must be hilighted/selected (one left click)
to make the shift-right-click sequence work.

OK, I have tried all suggestions. No dice. Ben, when I go to "Properties" according to your instructions, the "Type of File" is shown as "LIN File", NOT "Bridge Movie". And there is no "Open" option under "Properties". When I go back to the file and click "Open" I get the unintelligible Lotus WordPro file.

And Rebound, I tried your way also, and WAS able to at least get the "Open With" option, and I was then able to add "NetBridgeVu.exe" to the list of programs from which to choose, but when I try to open the file that way, I get the error message: "Missing or corrupt language file. Program aborting." (probably because it's still trying to open a WordPro file and not a .lin file.

So my problem persists. How do I download the files from the web site to my computer as something other than WordPro files? The computer offers me no choices, it just does it automatically.

Help is much appreciated, thanks, but I'm afraid I need more <_<

By the way, if it matters, I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition, with latest version of Internet Explorer.

This sounds like a BBO error message.

If you don't mind, please reinstall BBO from the download link at

http://online.bridgebase.com/

I have seen a similar message when upgrading from an older version to the latest version, this might help. If it does not, probably best to contact fred@ bridgebase.you know what.

Assuming the BBO software is installed in C:\Bridge Base Online\
on a Windows 95/98/ME PC I wrote a small .reg file which should set
the correct registry values to open BBO-lin files with NetBridgeVU.exe

1) download bbo1.reg from http://home.arcor.de...er/bbo/bbo1.reg
2) right-click bbo1.reg
3) select "Merge"
4) confirm "... will be added to the registry"

Hope that helps.

Thanks, ack_hh, I tried your little program as directed. Now when I try to download a .lin file, I get the error message "Missing or corrupt language file. Program aborting." in every case. So I will now try Uday's suggestion and re-install the software. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Well! Uday's suggestion did the trick, probably with the help of all other suggestions also! Everything now works. Thank you all!
