I joined this online to learn to play this game. I am now leaving and i would make the following observations
1. most players on here lie about their ability - why doesn't bridge have a rating system like chess, so an expert is really that??? how hard can it be
2. people on here are 1) aggressive 2) downright nasty
I play in line chess and that is much better...Never again with this game

Yes, stick to a game that does not require partners, and no partners will ever be rude.

yes, sad but true, bbo is full of clueless arseholes. i only play with people i know.
i think bbo should introduce the option to rate partners, much like customers can rate hotels on comparison sites - a score for their ability and a score for their manner.

Sadly we do have some players who have some strange condition that does not allow them to be nice. Self rating methods can not be expected to be 100% honest. Who will be the one to tell Molly she is not an expert? (keep in mind at lest 40 people have pointed out to Molly she lacks knowledge).

I don't think that there is any way to know for sure, but I suspect that there is a correlation between gender and inflated self-ratings, and an inverse correlation between inflated self-ratings and length of penis.

I can also immagine that chess players don't accuse each other of cheating as often as bridge players do.

I've actually been accused of cheating (i.e using a chess engine) a couple of times at chess.com. I would have that taken as a compliment if it hadn't come from people who were obviously as clueless as I was (am).

The option is there - you can write private notes for anyone you care to. If your suggestion is actually for those private ratings to be accessible by others, well that is quite a different thing and sadly very open to abuse.

Considering the manners people generally show in bridge clubs, and on the internet, you might expect the combination of the two (AKA online bridge) to be little other than an insult contest.
Actually it is quite surprising so nice most people are on BBO.
