You've missed my point. P will probe for slam on that hand regardless, so you lose nothing by splintering. Meanwhile, there aren't that many weaker hands where P has this fabled KQx(+) of clubs and it makes slam good; and there are hands - like the second hand I gave - where you can easily find slam by splintering, but it's much harder and maybe impossible to bid confidently if you don't.

Did you read my post, or just see one hand and whack the reply button? <_<

I did not miss your point; I feel that your point was very poor.

Hands that get to,slam on power have no place in a thread about splinters.

That was exactly his point - that opposite that hand it doesn't matter what you do.

But he thinks that this somehow makes a case for splintering with a stiff Ace. The hands that matter are those that won't go past game opposite known wastage.

He gave an example of that also.

What about those that play limited splinters, say 9-12?

If opener moves on expecting those 4 points to be somewhere else they will be disappointed perhaps hoping to find the A in a red suit and when it isn't, the 5-level may be in danger.

I think that most people do play splinters as less than the strength required for a forcing raise, whether based on HCP or controls. If you use controls, you can have 7 HCP. Anyway the points should be in aces and kings; the queens and jacks are not going to help with the thin slams. Thus the hand in the OP is too quacky to be considered as a splinter anyway.

No, you apparently think that makes a case for bidding a Jacoby 2N. So we agree the hand type you raised is irrelevant - now why not read what I actually wrote about the cases that matter instead of getting defensive about your obvious omission to do so the first time?
