Team game...penultimate hand. My team is ahead by 6. Seems like all the players are pretty decent, including my partner.

I'm West and figured my hand was strong enough to dbl and then bid clubs. Was almost hoping parter would pass 2!dX and wasn't sure what 2nt meant. I figured a balanced hand with at least one, probably two stops in !d. After 3!h, what do you bid?

4 clubs i guess. i dont believe in 3 nt anymore now p hasnt bid that on three clubs.
i dont want to play four hearts since p cant have four or five hearts and not be bidding them on our double. i think partner is trying to show heart strenght and a single stop in diamonds.

with my card the choice is now between 4 or 5 clubs as i see it. my minimum makes me conservative

Is 2NT not Lebensohl? This might show invitational values in hearts, so I guess I bid 4H.

This also leads me to believe that 2nt was intended as lebensohl (unfamiliar partnership?) and with my modest pump protection and a little racing luck 4 could easily make on the moyse anyway or be cold opposite Jxxxx and out with a club hook.

3nt can't be right or partner would have bid it already and if they are up to something different and carry on to 5, I'm raising.

Because that would be game forcing.

This is how it works: over 2S X

2NT forces doubler to bid 3C, then corrects to show a weak hand, either by passing 3C or bidding 3D/H. Weak is typically 0-7 ish. A direct 3 bid is constructive/invitational, 8-11 ish.

Over lower weak 2s, when advancer can bid his suit at the 3 level, 2X is weak, 3X is GF and 2NT followed by 3X is invitational.

The way we play Lebensohl, in response to your double, with , partner would bid...
  • 2 = NAT. S/O. 4+ s.
  • 2N then 3 = NAT. INV. 5+ s.
  • 3 = CUE. Staymanic/stop asking.
  • Jump to 3 = NAT. FG. 5+ s.

Obviously for Maximusg, Partner's 2N is NAT not Lebensohl.
Over a natural 2N we would play Stayman/transfers.
But for Maximusg, 3 is NAT and strong. So, over partner's 3, I rank
  • 3N = NAT. IMO partner has good s.
  • 5 = NAT. But you've already shown a good suit.
  • 4 = INV.
  • 4 = CUE. Good hand with support.
  • 4 = NAT.
