Let's say the bidding goes something like the above. Natural bidding systems in use

a. Does South's 1NT followed by 2 promise three card support?
b. What HCP range would be likely for South?
c. Does North's 2 after West's X show a two-suiter? Can it be 5-4 or would it need to be 5-5?
d. If North now bids 3, is it purely competitive or invitational?

Any comments/suggestions welcome..

As you don't mention it, i guess we play 5-card majors with a nonforcing 1NT response.

IMO 2 would not be 3 normally but something like 9-10 pts with Kx (probably with something nice in clubs).

I see no reason why 2 should show 5, on most unbalanced hands north should bid his second suit to help south competing with a fit. If opponents bid on the 3-level, a 3 would be competitive, as partner has shown a useful max with only 2cd-support, north should be able to judge game prospects without consulting partner.

2S would not normally show 3S. Playing with Gib where 2S is a constructive raise could have 3 or 4 spades with5-6 points
Playing standard it is unlikely you would have 10 points and Kx as 1N is NF. Would likely have enough for a 2/1.
At matchpoints especially there is no reason to expect Kx with 8-9 points with less should expect Hx. There is no reason to expect something nice in clubs.
You are just going to have to bid 2S on some hands and you can't wait for the perfect hand.
