Thanks for the match and everyone for the tournament. Here's the (incoherent) video I made of it:

The boards start around 7:00 :)

Looks like I was empirically wrong about IMPs Best Hand being a good format for autopilot players like me.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

No. 45 would agree with this approach.

To clarify, I'm pretty sure that mindlessness is punished the least in this format, since you can almost turn off your brain when defending some stupid 2S and there's no way that we're setting it. The trick is to turn on your brain when it is not one of those boards, something I failed to do. :) Also, in no way am I saying that turning off one's brain is a good thing, just that it isn't punished as much.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I played my last match against broze but he did not play the boards.
It looks like it can be decisive, if not for me for some of the other players.

Broze, can you send me the challenge again when you're available to play?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I happened to be looking at round 2 and I see scores posted not sure those should count since I was asking opps to play boards I did not know were already completed (for round one) and they may have accepted for practice just a thought. I didn't know round one was finished and didn't even know I had qualified for round 2.

Gszes, Round one isn't finished yet. Smerriman just put up the sheet for those guaranteed to move on. The scores are only those carried forward from round one. Just chill out for a week or two.

I guess my main frustration with this IMP format is when the bot randomly decides to hand opp 12/13 imps on a big board by misbidding/misdefending. Then the joy of carrying this score forward to round two without the countering bot gifts against other opps that allowed you to advance. I wonder if round two ought to be 32 boards against the other group qualifiers, with an additional 16 against the players in original group, if we are going to have carry-forward.

I thought about having longer matches in the second round robin, but it gets a bit complicated - for those you've already played with, are you having two independent 16 board VP results, or trying to combine the two in a 32 board VP result - neither really gives an accurate/fair result. And given you've already had a match against someone, it seems wrong to scrub it out entirely. (You could argue the same for the semi/final, but thought at that point 1v4 and 2v3 was enough advantage.)

As it stands, the 12 people in round 2 will end up playing one challenge against everyone else. Whether you got unlucky/lucky in that challenge doesn't really change if you played it earlier or played it now.

Plus, I didn't want to overload everyone with challenges - personally I'm all for making them longer, but 26x16 boards for the two finalists seemed on par with earlier events.

So will stick as is for now, but happy to take suggestions for the next event (which will be MP, so changes things a lot).

broze, that's two lapsed challenges - I would prefer not to assign penalties, but it's also unfair on the other players. Given past history I'm going to assume for the time being there is a valid reason, but please be more careful in accepting (or autoaccepting) challenges if there is a chance you can't complete them.

Hi. There was only one lapsed challenge from heart76, no? I didn't notice that one as I couldn't log on for a few days. I have now issued challenges to the remaining players in my group and will finish the matches this weekend.
