After the bidding is concluded, the hands should be rotated so that declarer is at the bottom of the screen. Opening leader will be on declarer's left and remove confusion as to who is on lead. This change will bring BBO into conformance with the presentation of all bridge hands in the known universe.

I just answered your other post on the same subject.

We did this when we first added Human Declares tournament, but people found it confusing because it meant that the auction no longer matched the positions of the players.

I agree that if user is declarer, hands should be rotated so that user's hand is at bottom of the screen. Change the auction. Or put North at the bottom. Whatever -- it's an easy front-end UI change, and should at least be an option in Settings.

My 84 year old mother finds it completely confusing the way it is. And I don't like it either.

Might be a good option, but as barmar says, the number of people who forgot which defender bid hearts (because it was on their left during the auction, but on their right now) and got upset because they guessed the two-way finesse wrong massively overcame the number of people who were confused that the "visible hand" was on the bottom.

Since the programming was already done, why wasn't there a display option added so players could choose. The 20+ year old Windows version had the option to rotate hands, or not.

And if dummy was displayed in the form specified in the laws of bridge, 4 columns sorted by suit, this would be even less of a problem. Again, this was available in the Windows version 20 years ago.
