4. I briefly wanted to be a hand hog and bid 3nt, but if I do, I am not getting to dummy to run the suit.

2N looking to resolve partners strength and shape if max. You could be slamming in 6N.
xx, AQxxxx, xx, Axx & loving a lead to one of the pointed suits.

My regular partner has a tendency to over sound pre-empts, especially getting a positive feature in clubs

I made 3NT+3 but a few gambled on one of two (edit correction 4) possible slams (one a grand)

I did consider trying for slam myself

EDIT 2 4 hearts is fine but 3NT slightly better :)

On the actual hand 6 looks to need little more than a 3-2 diamond break, but is very difficult to get to.

We have the agreement that in first and third we don't open a weak 2 (multi actually) with 2 aces, so the choice is P or 1 and it's close.

Depends on your 2N sequence.
With one partner I play
3 6(331), 26(32) max.
.. 3 <Shortage?>
.... 3N 1633
