If you join BBO+, you can choose between a few robot systems for your table. SEF isn't one of them, but you can choose SAYC or Acol Precision.

I also think 2/1 is taught more frequently in the US than you think.

There are a few tourneys that use SAYC robots as well:

BBO SAYC Daylong Tournament (available daily)
ACBL Non-Life Master Daylong (available daily, if you are interested in ACBL Masterpoints)
If you join BBO+ the Saturday BBO+ Get Together

None of them are peculiarly popular (at least not because of the robot system).

Most advanced and expert players who play a natural system play 2/1 AFAIK. If you only play SA, your chances of playing with advanced players is greatly reduced. Also, online, seeing somebody's profiles saying the only play SA and not 2/1 is a major sign that this player is a beginner or novice player and most advanced plus online players are not willing to play with beginners and novices. If you only play with other beginners and novices, you've got a much longer road to getting to intermediate or advanced stage.
As far as robots go, if you think 2/1 robots suck, how do you think SA robots are going to stack up? Whatever development has been done since GIB was bought by BBO has been concentrated on the 2/1 system.
