ouch!, doh!, or whatever is the correct translation to what I am thinking (telepatic boys unnder age please read anotherone's mind now)
with 2 suits chance are you play better in 1 of them, so lets try to guess. Dunno if I would have the guts at the table, but I like to bid 3♠

No idea as usual, partner rates to have short diamonds so I feel like I have to bid. X with a stiff heart is just too risky for me.
I think I would try 3S. If partner has a stiff diamond theres a good chance I will catch a fit, and a 4-3 fit might play very well (though I hope for a 4-4 fit). 4C is fine too but might lead to 5C with a missed spade fit.

Ugh, maybe I should leave this hand to the experts. 3S and 4C seem the only sensible actions, I don't have the guts to stand up against Gonzalo (he's back!) and Justin.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I was happy to Pass. Partner has short diamonds and clearly holds hearts, so if he has spades as well then he may be able to balance.

This hand was also from the Bridge Magazine bidding contest. The ratings assigned were:
4C: 10
3S: 7
X: 4
P: 3
If you play that a protective double by partner would be takeout (or two-way), I think pass is reasonable, and it was my choice. I certainly didn't expect it to score worse than double! I also felt 3S to be a better bid than 4C.

knowing your opponents will help as always, with some you can be sure partner has 1♦, with others he could have 3.

If you want to win a bidding contest, try 4♣.
I like 3♠ better too

If playing equal level correction, dbl and bid spades over pard's (more than likely) heart bid. Otherwise you're just stuck.

No bid is perfect, the problem with equal is the hands where you belong to 4♥, you will correct partner's winning game into a losing one. But with 3♠ he might very well raise to 4♠ instead of bidding the good contract hehe.

Agree, but I don't think that agreement is standard. If not, I bid 3NT. This scores 0 points by Bridge Magazine so I'm obviously insane. Sorry, can't help it. I wouldn't consider 4♣, btw. The choice is between 3♠, pass amd 3NT.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
