Scoring: IMP

Pass - (1) - ?

Does it pay to get involved with this hand?

I think it does, but both players passed in a match this evening (so I may have to resign from the Squadra Senilia).

I'll choose the more diminutive: double

1NT for 3 suit t/o; perfect.

with the people i normally play with, double.
it depends on partnership style, but it's correct for 90% of people out there.

Dwayne, my man! Are you playing Overcall Structure with LL in Nashville?

I'll take a call. On the days I'm not playing OS, I'm glad to take a call and stay at the one level. Otherwise, I get the double-edged sword of preempting the opps to the 2 level, while (potentially) risking a larger penalty with a 1NTO.

On a different thread I advocated a pass of 1 with more hcp and 4=4=2=3 shape, but felt it was close. Here, I double, and don't think it is (as) close.

I'm of a particularly sound bidding theory (against LIA overcalls) as it pertains to direct overcalls at IMPs, feeling that usually no action should be taken (except of course wild-ass jumps on junk) that has no preemptive value unless you can imagine some game that might plausibly be bid.

So, I imagine a relatively non-exciting hand for Advancer, like AQxx x xxx Qxxxx. Game makes enough opposite that hand. I ain't opening that, and I open crap (this one is admittedly close, but not enough). My partner sometimes pukes when he sees what I open, so he ain't opening that either. So, I'm good enough to double.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Double looks normal. Might be different for "Italian"-style doublers.

Change the suits around, so I've got xx spade over a 1 opening, and it's a fairly obvious pass for me. Think I'm still doubling over 1.

Double, but it's fairly close.

If I had to bid 1NT to show a 3-suited takeout, I wouldn't.
