Totally disagree with 1C as usual with these hands. 1S for me.
I pass, what else do you want to do now, 6S?

disagree with 1c, playing goulash i'd pass, playing duplicate i'd open 1s or pass depending on the mood. what now? i don't know, anything can lead to disaster and i don't think 6s is such a bad bid

I don't really care about how one bids a 6=7. I would bid 6 here. I might bid 8 if given the chance with this hand.

Strongly agree with opening my longest suit since my rebids will be easy as.
As to what I would do now...really don't know. Maybe we'll be saccing so I guess I'll bid my 2nd suit now, 6S.

I open 1 and now I bid 6.

I am surprised to find so much disagreement with these actions. They seem clear to me at IMPs.

Agree with 1. The auction hasn't gone as hoped, but I try 6 now.

I'll bid 6, why not? But as stated, I don't think I should worry too much about the correct bidding of 7-6 hands.

I beg to differ.

I open 6.

In my opinion, six clubs is the perfect IMPS opening. You don't get the opportunity to bid it very often, so neglect it at your peril.

IMO
  • 1. As opener 1 = 10, _P = 8, 1 = 5
  • 2. Now _P = 10, _X = 9, 6 = 5.

I assume you mean 6.

The idea of doubling 6 on these cards nearly makes me vomit (c'mon, Art, tell them how you really feel). Exactly what tricks are you planning to take on defense? If anything, this hand has about -3 defensive tricks.

You are 7-6, and so far all that you have done is open 1. In my opinion, you have not quite done justice to the hand.

This hand has a potential for 26 tricks - 13 each way. I would not be surprised in the least to find that both sides can make 12 or 13 tricks on the hand.

Is it possible that 6 is going down and you can't make 6 or 7? Sure, it is possible. But I am not going to bank on that parlay.

Opening 1 didn't even cross my mind.

6 now. Partner's probably got a million hearts so bidding 4 is attractive with not much but I bet it's odds on that he's got a black ace.

Over the past couple of months I've seen a tendency for people here to bid one higher too often (based on results of the hands shown)

However, this has to be about the clearest case of bid one more than I've ever seen.

We don't know if 6 can make and we don't know if 6 can make. What we do know is that we have little defence. Can we really on PD to set 6...and if he can set it, don't we think we may have some play for 6 ?

6 for me,but if the opps bid 7 and PD doesn't X, I am passing.

Why I open this 1S.
1C can be 3, (for some people even 2 cards), therefore partner will not raise with 3 cards and often in a competitive auction not even with 4. If you open 1S and are lucky enough to cop a raise you will be in a far better position. Here by opening 1C, you are forcing yourself to take the last guess because you have opened a suit in which you cannot outbid the opponents and because you have opened a suit which partner will be loth to raise without real support.

Bidding 6S now is a wild guess. Partner has advertised H and more H. Sure he may have S support, but with say 6/7 H and 4S he would probably bid this way over the 4D bid. We don't know how many defensive tricks partner has, but given my D void the hand may prove tricky in 6D.
