Scoring: IMP

Henri and his partner had a bidding misunderstanding i take it, their auction was

1S - 2D
3H - 4H
5N - 6H
Pass

I assume 5NT was GSF, which should get to the grand fine.

The pair at the other table, had no chance to bid the grand.. there it was

2C - 2NT
3S - 4S
5C - 5H
6S - Pass

I like henri's and ybob's auction, up to 5NT... Of course, I can't help but mention misho's invention, misiry, the auction would have been 2N-3C-3S-7H-pass, where 3S shows major two suiter, with 3 losers, and East major cards cover all three of those.

I think RKCB has made GSF redundant nowadays, thus the 5NT bidder's partner assumed it was pick a slam.

Sounds like the first auction 5NT should be GSF with these bidders only bidding and raising one suit and in the second auction I think 4NT should have made an appearance after 4, leading to a much more sexy push.

hi guys!

thanks ben for highlighting this hand, although it was some kind of a frustration to discover the dummy .. i even risked an " o_0? " which, for me, is a sign of intense stupefaction ;)
keep in mind that i opened a real monster at the one level, and it turned out well since we established clearly the trump suit at a relatively low level, so i was happy with my initial decision (hence the frustration).

what about blackwood?
two things 1) it is not available if opener holds a void(not the case here, admittingly)
2)say you use it here, because you do not have a void. what if pard answers one key with 5? would you be sure that a 5 queen ask will be clearly perceived?

what about 5 NT ?

well...is there really a possibility that it means " pls pard pick a suit " ? i think no, frankly.
is there a possibility that it means "hey pard, i hold AKxxxx Hxxxx - AK and i do not see an other way to check the top s" ? i think yes, frankly.
QED :P
kudos for the nice lil convention, ben. very comfortable.
