Strangely, everyone in last night's game botched this one. When I tried explaining to people how this should be bid (including some people with 16-18 1NT Openings and some without RKCB or Exclusion available), the permutations of auctions was staggering.

Opener: Axx KQJx Axxx A10
Responder: KQx Axxx -- KQJ9xx
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I can't help it.
I 'm going to have Opener use RKC [ 4S! ( kickback ) when are trump -- although it wouldn't matter here ] .
With 18, opposite a 2 GF response and no 2 quick losers in the side suits, Opener goes RKC:

1D - 2C!
2H ( showing 4 card suit ) - 3H
4S! - 5C! ( 1 key ... deciding not to show the " unuseful " void )
5S! ( specific K-ask, showing all key cards and Q ) - 7NT ( because of the "source of tricks" in )

............ Responder can count: 3s, 3h, 1d, 6c

TWOferBRIDGE
"imo by far in bridge the least understood concept is how to bid over a jump-shift
( 1M-1NT!-3m-?? )." ....Justin Lall

" Did someone mention relays? " .... Zelandakh

K-Rex to Mikeh : " Sometimes you drive me nuts " .

That might be because there is no 8NT card in the bidding box....

Did your permutations include my auction? :P
1C - 1NT; 2C - 2H; 2S - 3H; 3S - 4H; 4S - 5S; 7NT

1C = 15+ bal, or 15+ nat, or 18+ any
... - 1N = 9+, hearts or clubs and hearts, GF
2C = relay, usually 18+
... - 2H = 4 hearts, 5+ clubs
2S = relay
... - 3H = 3=4=0=6
3S = relay
... - 4H = extras, 4 controls
4S = relay
... - 5S = spade control, HA or KH without HQ, 2 of top 3 in clubs
7N

Do you find that the other members of your club welcome this sort of advice?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Seems almost impossible to have any auction that doesn't end in some grand. I guess getting to 7H would be a failure that might happen a lot, not getting to 7 is unthinkable though.

Generally, people who ask prefer a response rather than a brush-off, so yes.

True, but it was interesting how the routes changed. All roads should lead to Rome, but there are tons of routes. If you are asked to provide a sequence, you end up asking a lot of questions.

What is the 1NT opening range?
Do you play Exclusion, and, if so, RKCB Exclusion?
How do you set trumps after the "right answer" to Stayman?

Stuff like that.
