Agree. This seems preferable to 4, although I may be on shaky ground later.

4 splinter agreeing . If I start with 3 (which for me is a general asking bid, setting GF) I think I'll find it hard to show these two main aspects of my hand later.

4 works well when they pass-or-double; less well, I think, than 3 when they bid 5 (where partner can "see" the diamond shortness in my hand).

What's the chance of that? I don't know.

Will partner also be able to "see" the in our hand after 3-(5)? Or might they "see" more ? There's probably a fair chance of a 5 bid - is this Teams or Pairs? Could make a difference.

I doubt that there is a big chance for a 5 bid. West thought he had a 2bid, East passed already.

But it is still an ugly problem. I try 4 as the most descreptive bid.
Kind Regards

I bid whatever show a void, (4D for me) but 5D in standard. It might hurt to wrongside the club K but if I fail to show my void now i wont be able to show it later.

Wouldn't 3 be western Q? showing maybe something like AJxxx AJx Q KJxx?? anyway I bid 4, making 6 when P put down Qx KQxx Jxx A10xx. In hindsight, that's not really a surprise when rho passes, and I should have bid 4.

Wimps? I'm bidding 6 and standing the 1st round in the bar if I'm wrong. Pard won't get excited by a stiff petunia but I will and any bid risks a lead through the K.

No. Firstly, that hand isn't much above a minimum; secondly 3C should show a decent hand; thirdly, in most situations Western Q is unnecessary because partner will know whether she has a diamond stopper or not without us asking.

With the given opener, 4D feels right. 4H is O.K. on williness to play game in hearts but not quite as descriptive as 4D. 3D could be called on many strong hands, with or without a lot of hearts.
