of the desktop, so that part of the left side of the desktop is still visible.
When I "mouse over" an entry in the leftmost column of the player in the lobby
and then move the mouse pointer to the left - leaving the BBO window -
the mouse-over text is NOT cleared. The text is cleared only when
I hit any other area of the BBO window again.

7:26 pm 1/8 after about an hour session
typing chat (with no box present) at the end of a hand, while it would normally be posting movie/score -- got the Microsoft "send report?" message
Session until then was going well, but only about 3000-3500 people on board, and i do not normally experience any white screen with that many logged in
did not see any difference in speed (when loading players) on log-in with this version vs 3.9.6 but as i reported earlier log-in is slightly slower for me than the "OLDER" versions
playing speed was ok, with few pauses, and again i think this is because of the light load compared to 4500 people
hang in there!
ps:
1. moving the mouse off bbo window any direction leaves mouseover until return to the bbo screen on my machine also, but i dont think this is unusual -- or harmful
2. could it be having to move your mouse further away after mouse-over profile may simply be a result of the "pauses" that we see when we play, or when the white screen appears and there is a 3 second pause or more ??

Sorry - we don't like to treat our members as guinea pigs.
The crashes are almost certainly result of a server bug that relates to the way the server tells new (3.9.4 or later) clients about round changes in survivor tourneys.
Uday has a fix for this and will install a new version of the server soon (most likely late tonight USA time).
Anyone see any white screens with 3.9.7?
Thanks for your help and patience everyone - much appreciated.

I left the table at the same moment as my p.
I was in the lobby and received the "xxx has left ... you are host" message.
Confirmed that message, clicked "Back" twice.
Stopped the client via "X" --> IPF

BTW how do I confirm that? Where is the version posted?
Today, again with 4500+ on line I was getting slow chats (type text, shows up many seconds later) and several white screens. Today's white screens -- every one -- came as I clicked to play a card. (It could be that the screen is "frozen" and the mouse click trips the white screen?) I don't remember this happening before, but perhaps I just didn't notice.
Several things certain in my experience to date:
Always 4000+ people logged on.
Always a "slow" system -- chat always very slow.
Not necessarily tournament related. Sometimes in open bridge room
It WAS particularly aggravating today. Several white screens and lots of delays in play. BTW, I don't mind being one of the guinea pigs either. You have a great site and I am glad to try to help. Not much of a techy, but I can report what I see.
Best Regards,
Ed
For anyone interested, here is a copy of the msg posted in error on 3.9.6 thread Sunday night, Jan 9, at 10:30pm:
Fred,
Follows is a "general" report of today's activies.
1/9/05 5PM 4900 people on line:
White screen for about 5 seconds. This time (for the first time) I heard the tone telling me it was my turn to play while the screen was ALL white. I am NOT playing with full screen BBO, yet full screen turns white. Once recovered from the white screen there is usually a long pause of 1-3 sec from click of next card until it plays .
I experienced two more white screens during the next 15 minutes with more than 4800 people on line.
I played later in the day, a couple of times, and experienced no problems -- both times with under 3000 on line. Fast, crisp, etc.
FYI the only things running in my tray, which are not new and have not created problems in the past are Norton Anti Virus, Zone Alarm, and Comcast Support Agent. Of course, all of these programs are regularly updating which could cause some conflict.
Someone mentioned crashes at the end of the hand during a brief chat. This is when all of mine happened -- giving a "Netvu error."
BR,
Ed

Can you disable sound in bbo (the yellow gear icon on bottom toolbar allows you to clear the SOUND label) and see if this helps ?

Thanks for your excellent reports.

Old computer = Pentium 4, 1.6Ghz
Fast connection = Comcast Cable with few users
Last crash was in an ACBL tournament. Cannot remember the other one. I only had trouble that one day and no crashes since in the last three or four sessions.
In the future if I start having difficulty I will disable sound. I will also log off and back on with the sound off to see if that helps.

Ed

The news about playing in tourneys is good since I think I found a bug in 3.9.6 and 3.9.7 that could lead to problems at end of hands in tourneys.
This is fixed in 3.9.8 so hopefully you won't see that crash anymore.
You are starting put up a good fight with Dr. Todd for our tester of the month
