I think that when we have 9 hearts and the opponents aren't bidding, partner is likely to be on the more sound end of his bid and just accept my game try anyway, so I vote for just bidding 4♥ and keeping the opponents in the dark.

Fair enough. 3♦ intending to pass 3♥ does seem better than a 4♣ splinter. IMO, however, a jump to 4♥ is better than either. We're entitled to our opinions and, as jallerton points out, the right action may depend on partnership agreement. For example, some partnerships bid 1N first with non-constructive raises.

I actually like splintering with the hand, you know, just in case partner's 2♥ raise is exactly AKx of hearts and Kx of diamonds, which he chose to down play to a simple raise... and diamonds are no worse than 4-3... and hearts are 2-2 or 3-1 with a stiff J... and a trump promotion is not forged by continually entering hand after a spade lead.

No brainer 4H all scoring. Sate of the match where you are behind do to previous insanities you MIGHT pass in the HOPE the other guy goes down in game, that is the excuse you can use for not bidding game. Nige, 4C is just a complete dream.

If you open 1♥ on most suitable "rule of 18" hands (as we do when playing a strong ♣), then a raise to 2♥ shows 6-10 HCP. IMO it is quite sensible to treat 1♥-2♥-3♥ as a game-try but some partnerships use it as a pre-emptive barrage.

pd got ♠Jxx,♥Axx,♦98x,♣Axxx. My LHO got stiff ♥K, and RHO got ♦KQ doubleton.

I played small ♥ toward dummy and made the marked finesse of ♥. I made 11 tricks. The other table played ♥Q toward dummy and made 10 tricks.
