This is a game from last week.I am not sure if the bidding was ok.May be 6NT was our better stop, but it happened this way.North - South both BBO Experts so after i saw the dummy two trumps i knew i would have a tough time making this slam.I did not lose hope and after the end of the game we finished with nice 1620.

atack was 4 of diamonds.

How would you continue ?

with 6 side tricks we need 6 trump tricks

there are some chances if south has less than 2, 2 ir 3, but they are complciated.

I would start with A and 3 clubs, if north drops Qxx, I would cash K next in order to draw trumps and try to cash 10 when north is out of trumps.

But I don't think that would hapen so after that cash winners, ruff a red card (diamond better) in hand and 10 with K to lead whatever towards AQ98 on the last 4 trick.

Expecting doubler to have 6 trumps i think playing 3 rounds of clubs is risky at the beginning. The chances you got overruffed are very high.

Given that we know about the 6-0 trump split, we can win the diamond, AK and ruff a club low. Cash red AKs and play a diamond, overruffing South. Ruff final club with K[s], South underruffing, and play another red card. You lose J only, because 2 of the 7, T and J will be gone.

This line requires 6-2-2-3 and I don't see anything better.

Again ruffing club with 3 of spades put the contract on risk at the very begining. It would also lose on the real deal.I will post it later when have more time.

unless you guess which suit south has 3 cards in, you are putting the contract at risk.

This is the real deal.To throw everything on 3 clubs in South and to be ruffed at the very beginning was not acceptable so i decided to try something else.Instead of ruffing two times in dummy and 2 times in hand i decided to ruff once in dummy and three times in hand.So after i took the lead with K i played A and third .The line i played is 100% if South has the three diamonds and also can wins in any 6-3-2-2 combination if in this moment South ruff this diamond. At this point he had not much info and may be he would not expect me to try this ruff from hand.Anyway in this deal South had the 3 in hand so my line did not give him chance.

It's not clear to me why playing South to have exactly 3 diamonds is better than playing him/her to have exactly 3 clubs. In fact I'm fairly certain you need him to have 3-2-2, 2-3-2, or 2-2-3, and you must guess which.

Since we own 6 of each minor and 7 hearts, I'd have to guess one of the minors, and I'd be wrong--not for the first or last time. But again, it seems to me as though it's a pure guess which minor to ruff with few clues if any.

Maybe it is because if he turns out to be 6-2-2-3, by playing diamonds first you cannot get overruffed at first?

Playing clubs do not give chance the defance to get wrong. He just overruff and slam is over.Playing diamonds seemed more atractive couse on trick three you put preasure on defance and if he have only two diamonds he must make desicion to ruff or not and if ruff the diamond we make the slam on any 6-3-2-2 distribution.

is you let south discard his other doubleton on the third diamond you are toasted just as well as if they overruff third club, basically anything you try you need to guess which suit he has 3.

It's not even close to 100%, if South has 2-2 in the minors you can't even cash AK. If he has 2-2 in - you can't cash AK. You're just playing for South to have 3s, any other case fails (South will discard rather than ruff the 3rd , even if he had QJ stiff).

Some people would see double on this auction as suggesting 6 hearts with North rather than 6 spades with South. But that would spoil a good brag story.

Yes if the defance is 2-2 in hearts -clubs he can pitch and set me.I did not say something different.jlI just think this line give better chances than try to ruff club because the defender could mess it....

If South has 6 trumps you want to play him for 6322.
The 3 card suit is almost twice as likely to be in a red suit than in clubs.
So play in the following way where South can be either 6=3=2=2 or 6=2=3=2:

Win and play 2 clubs and then 3 hearts from the top to ruff with your small trump in hand.
South will probably discard a diamond if he has two hearts, but it does not matter. Should South ruff in, overruff and return in diamonds to later ruff a diamond low
After the heart ruff return in diamonds, having won 7 tricks.
In hand you have AQ98 in trumps and in dummy there is still K3
When you play a red card from the table there is no way South can stop you from making all your trumps in hand and ruff a club with the trump king for five additional tricks
