Imps, unfav

x A KQTx AKQT8xxx

1c (2h) 3n (p)
4c (p) 4n (p)

1c was natural 11+ or any 17-19 nt.

Are you happy with 4c? What now?

6. I think it is a reasonable gamble that partner has an ace. With two aces he wouldn't have signed off so we are not missing grand.

What would 4 have meant over 3NT, Micky? Over 4 there is something to be said for inverting the 4 and 4NT advances so that the most discouraging rebid is 4.

I'll try my luck with 5. It's a long shot to find 7, but P's surely got more than a misfitting aceless 12-count for a jump to game, so I can't imagine 6 going off. Conceivably he's got got two aces and a void in my suit - something like AJx KJT9x A9xxx - feels just about consistent with his bidding so far.

I want to suggest diamonds as a possible strain, so 5, I will accept a 5NT sing off.

I prefer 4, since this is more likely provoke cooperation. Take the actual hand - partner would bid 4 and now we could invoke RKCB (in my case via a bid of 5, since 4NT would be rolling).

I intend to follow with 6 to offer a choice if we are off a banger.
