Does not seem close here.

Open 1. Rebid 5.

Clearly you see all the problems that arise if you start 1, don't you?

Of course you will hate it if you end up defending (doubled no doubt) and partner's 4th best is swallowed up by dummy's single Q while a small goes away on declarer's A.

C'est la vie.

opening 1 would indicate that I miss-sorted my hand. This is in the wrong forum, at least on that question. It belongs in the novice section.

Well, this hand was played in a BBO tourney by a friend of mine.
His partner, a " BBO expert " , chided him for opening 1D .
They received a bad board because of the induced lead by partner ( opps made 12 tricks in a contract rather than the cold 11 tricks on a lead ) .
Easy to see post mortem .... duh .

I too, would have opened 1D .

I'm opening 1 and rebidding 5 .

The 5 bid shows a very distributional 2 suiter, so a lead isn't necessarily automatic if opener makes that bid.

Well I agree with everyone that 1D is clear, But I'm not so sure 5c is. 5 minor could easily be -2 and 4 major have no play.

There's an element of guess, of course. But usually it pays to be bold in this situation, as it's possible opps have a double fit.
