Hi,

is there a reason, why the Smith Peter Signal is the opposite to the attitude signal,
i.e if low is pos. for the lead, the smith peter signal for pos will be a high card?

With kind regards

This is not universal -- there's "reverse smith" and "alarm clock smith" and people play different styles.

The rationale I've heard for "alarm clock smith" (which is high likes the lead from 3rd hand, low likes the lead from 1st hand) is that it's more common that the opening leader wants to encourage the lead suit and that his partner wants to discourage, and this allows the more frequent signal to use the lower card.

But I don't think there's much difference here; I play udca and reverse smith (low likes the lead) with most of my partners.
