For me this change has added nothing but irritation. The numbers and labels ('tactician') are meaningless, but more importantly the display of the badges is visually far too distracting, especially when looking at the Tables view of a tournament. The badges are far more obvious than the names, whereas it should be the other way around. I've turned mine off, and hope that others will soon do the same.
