That hand looks to me like an excellent argument for playing a 4NT response as quantative, which is what I at least was taught.

In my I/A partnerships it is quantitative in a situation like this, but had North bid 4S it would be RKCB in diamonds.

We rarely use RKCB, but the entire convention including void showing is on (and documented in our system notes). I don't see anything unusual in that. It's not remembering a convention that is difficult, but rather when it applies or not, as your example demonstrates.
