You are playing at the local game for charity pairs with a competent partner. The opps are of decent quality, and are known for aggressive bidding. You are the proud and happy owner of this hand:

Scoring: MP

Of course RHO preempts, but with 3 instead of the likely 3! What would you do, with follow-ups?

I can't think of anything brilliant, so I would overcall 7. If you told me I'm nuts and that if I'm taking this approach I should overcall 6, you may be right :)

lol at the poll options. 4C is not forcing you know..

I would just bid 6C, seems like a practical shot. Toyed with 4N planning to convert diamonds to clubs but I think that gets us to diamonds when clubs is better too often.

I'd wait to have at least AKQJ10x clubs for this call if youre also going to have potential losers in the other suits.

Yes, I think you're definitely nuts. You need too much to get covered. Gambling on 6C seems intelligent though it could easily go down, but gambling on partner being able to cover your heart, diamond, and club in order to increase your slam bonus to a grand slam bonus is really nuts.

For the record, the poll options are not my own - if they were, at least three other choices appear.

6 is my choice. 7 seems like you are asking for a lot.

Can anyone do a simulation? I bet 7C isn't as bad as I initially thought and we are just trained to be really risk averse with grands to an irrational point when we learn bridge. Would be interested how often 7C makes and how often 6C makes.

I think 7C is considerably less than 50% Justin.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I would but my Dealmaster Pro is far beyond my computer ability to figure out how to use. I need to find someone local to teach me.

I dealt 50 hands and looked at them to see where I wanted to play single dummy (so not a double dummy result, just a what looks to be the right spot). This is assuming my options are 6C or 7C, so doesn't count hands where diamonds might play better.

That result was
23 hands want to play 6C
3 hands any club slam is virtually playless
24 hands want to play 7C, but on 3 of them partner might raise 6C to 7C (but might not... I decided AK of spades a heart void and 4 trumps was definitely sufficient to raise but the others were more guessy depending on how aggressive your 6C bid was)

I think that means 7C isn't as bad as I initially thought either, but it's still right to bid 6C.
